Boys Soccer
2008…Seven straight state soccer titles for St. Pius, and 17th overall, when the Sartans edge Academy 2-1 in overtime
2007…First year for new coach Mike Strati, but the winning ways continue as Pius blasts Academy 5-1 in 4A finale
2006…Sartans squeak by Farmington 1-0 and send off retiring coach Jorge Tristani Jr. with his 15th championship
2005…St. Pius beats Academy for second straight year in title contest, this time by 2-1 count, to capture blue trophy
2004…A resounding 3-0 victory by Sartans over Academy brings another first-place 4A soccer trophy to the school
2003…Slipping by Los Alamos 1-0 in championship, St. Pius puts finishing touch on a 19-4 campaign
2002…After a rare one-year absence from the top, Sartans rebound by beating Kirtland Central 3-0 in 4A finale
2000…For second straight year, St. Pius and rival Academy tie in championship game (0-0) and are declared co-champs. Still, it’s the 8th straight year for Sartans winning first-place trophy
1999…A 1-1 tie in Class 1A-3A title contest means that St. Pius and Academy share state bragging rights
1998…Sartans beat back Academy 3-1 and are state soccer champions once again
1997…Sparkling 21-1-1 season for Coach Tristani and St. Pius ends with 2-1 victory over Academy in championship contest
1996…Beating Sandia Prep 1-0 in title game, St. Pius earns Class 1A-3A first-place honors for fourth straight season
1995…A 17-1-1 season for Sartans culminates with a 2-1 triumph over Los Alamos in championship game
1994…Doubling up Los Alamos 4-2 in 1A-3A championship gives St. Pius yet another to be proud
1993…Facing undefeated Alamogordo in Class 4A finale, Sartans force Tigers into a 0-0 tie and are state co-champs as a result
1990…Pius shuts out Alamogordo 2-0 and grabs 4A championship to finish off 17-2 season
1988…First of many: St. Pius edges Academy 1-0 in big schools finale and claims first boys soccer title

Girls Soccer
2007…Four straight state championships for St. Pius, which beats Los Alamos 1-0 to cap 22-1 season for the Sartans and coach David Sullivan
2006…A resounding 5-1 thumping of Los Alamos in Class 4A state title game means St. Pius if best in class again
2005…Cross-town rival Academy is the victim as Sartans shut out the Chargers 3-0 in 4A finale
2004…An undefeated 21-0-2 season for Pius ends with a 1-0 win over Academy for state bragging rights
1999…First girls soccer championship for Sartans, which ends title run with a 1-0 victory over Academy

1999…For first time in over 25 years, St. Pius is king in football following a 22-12 victory over Artesia in Class 3A championship
1973…Coach Ray Giannini and his Sartans finish perfect 12-0 season with a 27-16 win against St. Michael’s in Class 3A title game

2003…Led by six-footers Jeanne Fairchild and Jackie Bonsalle, St. Pius blazes to a 23-0 record and a 3-1 win over Goddard in 4A finale
2002…Upending defending titlist Goddard in a three-game championship sweep, Sartans take Rockets’ place atop Class 4A
1999…A 22-1 campaign for St. Pius finishes with a 3-1 victory over Moriarty for Sartans and coach Holly Olsen
1997…After two-year absence at the top, Sartans pick up another Class 3A first-place crown by beating Silver in four games
1994…Coached by Toby Manzanares, St. Pius is a perfect 21-0 after sweeping Los Alamos in 3A championship match

Boys Basketball
2008…Led by senior standout Chris Johansen, St. Pius wins third state title in a row by virtue of a 59-51 victory over rival Academy in 4A finals
2007…With only a 13-13 record entering state quarterfinals, Sartans end up winning it all via a 62-58 championship triumph over Capital
2006…St. Pius and coach Damian Segura claim 4A crown following a 72-64 win over district rival Del Norte in title game
1985…For second time under coach Bill Duffey, Sartans go undefeated. Class 3A championship game: St. Pius 62, Belen 60
1982…Second title in three years for Pius following a 61-58 triumph over Tucumcari for the blue trophy
1980…First boys basketball title for St. Pius as Sartans beat Portales 77-67, finishing off perfect 25-0 campaign

Girls Basketball
2009…Nearly Perfect: St. Pius wraps up 28-1 season by handling Roswell 43-32 in Class 4A final for second straight title
2008…Sartans and coach Phil Griego beat Kirtland Central 57-48 in Class 4A championship to finish 27-2 campaign
2006…First title since the late 1970s for St. Pius, which cruises to 74-56 title game victory over Aztec
1979…The coach is George McAfee and Sartans pick up first girls hoops crown thanks to a 51-44 victory over Kirtland Central

2003…St. Pius thumps Moriarty 8-3 in Class 4A championship game for first state crown in 15 years
1988…There’s little doubt who’s best in Class 3A after Sartans whips Bloomfield 14-2 to wrap up state tournament
1984…Second straight title, and fifth in eight years, for St. Pius after beating Taos for 3A bragging rights
1983…Led by coach George McAfee, Sartans nip Los Lunas 3-2 for top honors in Class 3A
1981…Sartans continue every-other-year state championship pattern by beating Artesia 8-3 to finish of season
1979…It’s two diamond title in three years for St. Pius as Sartans begin to build a baseball legacy of state crowns
1977…Blasting Silver 10-4 in Class 3A state championship, St. Pius brings home title trophy for first time in over a decade
1964…Sartans go back-to-back by winning the state tournament for Class B baseball
1963…Albuquerque school shows it can play some ball on the diamond as St. Pius captures first state championship

1986…Lone softball championship comes St. Pius’ way when coach Steve Sanchez and his Sartans blast Cobre 7-1 in title game

The Sartans have been blessed with tennis talent throughout the years and, three times, has boasted three-time individual champs at the end of their time at St. Pius. Most recently, that took place when Audree Jenks won the Class 4A crown from 2004 to 2006. Also in girls play, Jennifer Baca grabbed three straight from 1984 to 1986 while, in the boys 1A-3A tourney, Todd Kjeldgaard was thrice successful from 1985 to 1987. Other St. Pius girls champs include Jeanne Maloof in 1977 and 1978 while Craig Maron grabbed the boys state tourney in 1983
