Manzano made a push for the 2009 state football title in Class 5A – which would’ve been the first on the gridiron. It’s already happened in almost every other sport.

Boys Basketball
2006…A 30-year-plus absence ends when Manzano, led by coach Greg Brown, knock off Alamogordo 64-53 in Class 5A championship
1974…Same two teams in Class 4A title game as year before – with same result. This time Monarchs defeat Albuquerque High 65-55
1973…Coached by Mike Martin, Manzano rakes in first hoops title by beating Albuquerque High by the narrowest of margins. Final: Monarchs 59, AHS 58
Volleyball
1975…In the early days of NM state volleyball tournaments, Manzano brings home a title with a sweep over Cibola in championship
Boys Soccer
1999…Monarchs shock nationally ranked Sandia in the final and earn the Class 4A trophy with a 2-1 win over the Matadors
Wrestling
In 1975 and 1978, Manzano earned the team Class 4A championship in wrestling. Among the Monarchs’ individual champs, two stand out: Mike Baker (1977-79) and Chris Luttrell (1980-82) won the state tournament in their respective weight classes three straight times.
Baseball
1976…Manzano and coach Henry Jacobs return to the top after nearly ten years as Monarchs win the Class 4A championship game
1967…First team tournament state title of any kind for Monarchs, who beat Roswell High 3-1 in Class 2A finale
Softball
1979…Coached by Terry Bernal, the Monarchs prove themselves queens of the diamond by beating Rio Grande 6-2 in title contest
Tennis
Yes, Manzano has a tennis state championship. It happened at the 1995 Class 4A girls singles tournament when Monarch Marcia Spilca grabbed the crown.
