This may surprise some, but Gadsden made the border town of Anthony very proud once with one of the most extraordinary runs of success in New Mexico prep history.

Let’s go back to the mid-’50s in the Roll Call of State Championships…

1955…Three different coaches in three years? It doesn’t matter as Gadsden goes unbeaten again. Class A title game: Gadsden 19, St. Mike’s 0

1961…Return to glory for Panthers, who finish 7-0-1 campaign with a 40-15 beating of Portales in championship

1962…Led by coach James Canady, Gadsden claims Class A supremacy again by virtue of a 42-0 victory over Raton in finale

Baseball

1954…After triumphing in football in the fall, Gadsden shows in the spring it can play a little baseball too by winning the big schools title
