This may surprise some, but Gadsden made the border town of Anthony very proud once with one of the most extraordinary runs of success in New Mexico prep history.

Let’s go back to the mid-’50s in the Roll Call of State Tourney Champs…

Football
1953…Gadsden goes a perfect 10-0 on the year and culminates the campaign with a 27-0 shutout over Raton for Class A championship
1954…Two straight seasons the Panthers are perfect; this time, 10-0 season is topped by a 38-13 victory over St. Michael’s
1955…Three different coaches in three years? It doesn’t matter as Gadsden goes unbeaten again. Class A title game: Gadsden 19, St. Mike’s 0
1961…Return to glory for Panthers, who finish 7-0-1 campaign with a 40-15 beating of Portales in championship
1962…Led by coach James Canady, Gadsden claims Class A supremacy again by virtue of a 42-0 victory over Raton in finale

Baseball
1954…After triumphing in football in the fall, Gadsden shows in the spring it can play a little baseball too by winning the big schools title
1955…Panthers win second straight title on the diamond with a 9-8 victory over Albuquerque High in the championship
1956…Three crowns in a row in baseball to go with three in football as Gadsden caps school year with yet another title
1967…After a decade-long absence, Panthers return to the top with a Class A baseball championship game 2-1 victory over Los Alamos
1975…Gadsden overwhelms Los Lunas 9-3 in Class 3A finale to claim fifth overall title

Volleyball
2011…A repeat matchup between Gadsden and Cleveland in the Class 5A finale. This time it’s a little tighter, but Panthers retain state title after a five-game victory
2010…Panthers haul in their first state championship trophy in volleyball after surviving semifinal thriller with Rio Rancho and then beating Cleveland in the Class 5A title contest
